Dear Center Point High School Parents:
We welcome you to Center Point High School and our new website! I hope you have a great summer break and will soon be ready to start a great new year! I am looking forward to working with each of you as we meet and advance the diverse learning needs of all of our students.
Our school has been recognized as a “school on the move”. As we focus on Alabama’s College and Career Ready Standards, PLAN, ACT and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge, we will revisit our academic goals in order to converge our 2016 Alabama Continuous Improvement Plan (ACIP) with the Alabama College and Career Ready Standards Initiative.
All of our teachers will continue to engage in weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) during the second semester which will demand that the teams quickly respond to three primary questions:
1. What do we want students to learn?
2. How do we know that they have learned?
3. What will we do if they do not learn?
Center Point High School has received the prestige of being a Title I school and will be afforded federal funding to supplement our school’s existing programs. The funds will be used for assisting students who experience academic difficulties, to purchase additional materials to meet and advance students’ needs, and to finance parent involvement training activities and resources. Being a Title I school also ensures that parents will be involved in a decision making capacity and will be informed regarding parent rights concerning the qualifications of our classroom teachers. Below the Parents’ Right-To-Know is provided.
As a parent of a student attending a Title I eligible school in the Jefferson County school district, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law permits you to request certain information about your child’s classroom teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner when so requested. If you would like to receive this information, please contact me at 205-379-3400.
My greatest aspirations for the second semester and for our immediate future are that we focus on learning, have informed parents and attain our desired instructional goals.
I am truly looking forward to working with each of you. Let us all continue to learn and strive to have a superb second semester.
Van A. Phillips, Principal
